Safety Certification consists of two parts -- an online exam and a pool session or an approved equivalent course.

Online Exam. . Part one of the course consists of registering and completing the online exam. There is no time limit to complete the online exam in one sitting. Once you complete registration, you may begin your exam or logout and return at a later time to complete the exam, you will need to complete this exam within 30 days of your pool session or you will have to repay the $75 to get a new exam. The exam is an assessment tool only and does not "teach" the required information needed to complete the written exam. The information needed to complete the online written exam is included in the USA Diving Safety Training for Competitive Diving Coaches (2nd edition) and its companion Update (2008) are the Safety Training course reference texts. All participants should study the texts prior to their course registration and provided PowerPoint presentations.

ALL participants who choose option B, instead of option A, must complete the statement below with their signature and date with the instructor at the pool session.

"I have completed the USA Diving Safety Certification online exam and have observed the pool session needed to obtain safety certification completion status. I understand that I am not certified to make a rescue and must have a lifeguard on duty and on deck while all USA Diving practices or events are in progress, due to the fact that I observed the pool session but did not demonstrate the skills required to make a safe and successful rescue."

Warning! The activity can be strenuous. There are lifting and swimming skills potentially exhausting for individuals with heart or lung conditions. Participants with physical limitations should consult a physician prior to engaging in the course and notify USAD of limitations at the time of registration.
